Have you heard of the annual bird count? It happens every year around Christmas time within a 15 mile radius of your home / local community lead by local organizers / coordinators who wishes to participate in bird watching and reporting / documenting the species and population numbers that are observed! Audubon established this initiative 119 years ago, making it a North American wide effort by volunteers!
The Bird Count reports get sent to Audubon for technical analysis and assists with contributing scientific evidence for changes to bird populations / species with climate change and other environmental factors. The local Okanagan Collaborative Conservation Program (OCCP) helps with aiding local enthusiasts join a local bird count group (available for all communities in the Okanagan – Penticton, Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon, Big White, Peachland). See their website for more details!
